Calabria Private Bin Nero d'Avola

Nero d'Avola is a red wine variety, originating from Sicily and is one of Italy's most important indigenous varieties. It is named after Avola in the far south of Sicily and its wines are compared to New World Shiraz, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavours. The black grape of Avola appears to have been selected by growers near Avola several hundred years ago. Initially, it was confined to the southern tip of the island.

The idyllic Riverina climate of sunshine and rich red soils allows the soft black berries of Nero d’Avola to express red cherry and dried herb aromas; the supple palate is long and gentle with fine grained tannins.
Fermented in open top concrete 10 tonne fermenters, thoroughly plunged twice each day throughout a slow fermentation lasting 7 – 8 days. Pressed to stainless storage, where the wine completes primary and malolactic fermentation. Racked and matured in a blend of French and American oak barrels, and also stainless storage, aged for 10 months.
The balanced flavours of Nero d'Avola allows this wine to be enjoy with cured meats and aged cheeses or gourmet Italian sausages.
